Formed in 2008, the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization which uses tax-deductible contributions, bequests and advertising revenues to support major capital improvements, public park land acquisition, special projects and programs. The SCPR Foundation has a volunteer Board of Directors and appointed ex-officio staff that wish to see Shawnee County park lands and recreation facilities preserved and remain first class for generations to come.
Donations to the SCPR Foundation go toward the long-range preservation of facilities and parks designated by the donor or into a general endowment fund. The Foundation recognizes benefactors by establishing a memoriam in their name that is permanently and prominently displayed within the parks and facilities they support.
The Topeka Parks and Recreation Foundation was founded October 1, 1984 after the Lou Falley family donated money for a greens rebuilding project at the Topeka Public Golf Course – currently Cypress Ridge Golf Course. The purpose of the Foundation was to promote and financially support the parks and programs offered by the City of Topeka's Parks and Recreation Department. The merging of the City and County parks and recreation departments effective January 1, 2012 brought the TPR Foundation under the umbrella of the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation Foundation as of June 1, 2012.
